The mighty Potomac River and tidal basin has many connecting tributary rivers, creeks and waterways. With its entrance at Chesapeake Bay and the ports of Newport News and Portsmouth precede access to Washington from the sea. Other bay areas in the District of Columbia include: Globe Bay, Selby Bay, Ramsay Lake, Cherry Tree Cove, Round Bay, ‘Severns’ and SilleryBay. Main roads access is via Richmond to the South, from Baltimore in the North and Frederick from the North West.
Parks and gardens on the Mid-Atlantic have (800) miles of trails for the active persons. Waters sports, biking, hiking, joggers and strollers can see the stunning variety of flowers, plants, shrubs, trees and waterways, many within the metro area. Hike along the C & O Canal Towpath, Eastern Market, Lincoln Park, Great Falls Park, and Montrose Park or visit the Fresh farm Market. Water activities on the Potomac and Anacostia rivers offer cruises, boating, sailing, canoeing, Kyaking around Theodore Roosevelt Island.
Marinas on the South West waterfront, Alexandria and Arlington offer berthing and cruises while viewing of the Great falls is a thrilling experience. Fishing on the Potomac – west of Georgetown, offers opportunity to hook small mouth bass, trout and perch.
