With Phoenix as its capital, Arizona is the largest copper producer in the USA and is the mainstream of the state’s economy and development. Once famed for its silver and some gold, copper and tourism now dominate the economy. The state flag has a copper star as centerpiece.

Historical attractions Navajo and Apache two of the major of the 21 Indian Tribes, their reserves and casino developments draw tourists to this “Place of the Little Spring” also described by the Basques as “The Good Oak tree” which was part of the 1734 ‘Rancherio Arizona’ of Mexico. Famous Indian warriors, Cochise and Geronimo walked the land in war and peace. A more recent (1910-1997) ‘warrior’ was Anna Wauneka who did so much for the Indian Nations in the field of education and healthcare from her positions in science and government.

Gaming is allied to the development and maintenance of  the Indian reservations, in which the tribes hold  the majority shares.

The Climate is mild and ‘The Land of Sunshine’ has abundance of Desert, Mountain and Canyon and lakes attractions, a hunter and fisherman’s paradise. Hunting takes place mainly in the Indian reservations with big game available in the areas of Flagstaff, Pinetop, Kingman, Yuma, Tucson and Mesa.  Species like, Deer, Buffalo, Antelope, Turkey, Javelina, Elk, Black Bear, Mountain Lion, Bighorn Sheep and Bobcat. Bird and small species are pheasant, pigeons, quail, grouse, doves and crane, rabbit and squirrels. Predators, bobcat, fox, coyote and skunks ‘bring up the tail’.

Popular fishing areas are in the White Mountains region with much bass, catfish and trout. North Central region (Flagstaff) has the greatest variety, with both cold and hot water lakes. Mogallon Rim is known for its trout fish lakes. Colorado River in the North West with the Grand Canyon and Lake Mead are among the most wild. Central Arizona has lakes Pleasant and Rooseveld nearby. South-East has small bodes of water in the hills and South-West has the Colorado River on the Mexican border, ‘primitive as it was’.

Touring Arizona offers all the scenic delights of rugged, eroded Desert, Mountains of pine and snow, Canyons of breathtaking size. Visit rushing rivers (Kyaking), calm lakes, desert plants and Apache (hiking) trails. For those with luxurious tastes – Spa’s abound from those catering for day visitors to destination or resorts. Naturally a visit to the GRAND CANYON is a must for all. Towns and cities have their night-life with local wine bars, breweries, sports bars, music areas, coffee shops and clubs. For family entertainment there are the ‘Old West’ towns, Dude Ranches, Mines, Lakes and Railroads, Horse riding, Zoos, Unusual Museums (Science, Space, Fire and Aircraft), Ski areas and Water Sports. Loads of indoor and outdoor shopping malls.
Sports centers cater for all the popular sports with competition in local and national professional teams. Baseball, Football, NASCAR and INDI racing draw very large crowds.

NO WONDER that inhabitants of Arizona seldom want to leave!
