Mississippi

MISSISSIPPI is historically linked to the birth of ‘Blues Music’, the ‘Deep South’ and the River Steamboats, the floating casinos of yesteryear. Today the entertainment is even more legendary, with many modern casinos, magical music venues, seafood and Asian restaurants, water activities and entertainment centered on the towns in the delta area.

The State is rich in museums to music, movies, photography, folk art, influential writers, Elvis memorabilia, Vintage Cars, Civil War reenactments, Civil Rights, Agriculture and Forestry, Natural Science and fine Art. Historical sites and buildings include; Emerald Mound – Native American ceremonial mound, Ruins of Windsor – 23 tall Corinthian columns remain, Rowan Oak – home of William Faulkner, now part of the University at Oxford, Elvis Birthplace, 1839 Capitol Building, Longwood – an octagonal, domed house, in Natchez, Mount Locust Visitors center – a restored 1783 Inn, 1798 House on Ellicott’s Hill, 1857 Stanton Hall – Stately Palatial home, 1829 Rosalie- Brick mansion and Melrose Plantation – the best kept  antebellum estate in the US as well as The Grand Village – Natchez Indian culture and the 1800’s Fort Massachusetts on Ship Island, and many more.

Entertainment is its byword. Each State will be hosting annual and monthly events. The Smithsonian Travelling Exhibition is one of the major events appearing throughout the year, in different venues, until March 2010. The Capital / River Region host’s 38 events starting with, Civil War Living History – Starts with battle reenactments, music, textiles, fashions, cooking and food. Then Gospel, Dairy, Teen Pageant, Music and Arts, horse shows, Hot air Balloon Shows, Independence Day, Clay Shooting, many arts, crafts and family entertainments follow. The Coastal Region hosts 59 events; Coliseum Summer Fair – Family event, Blues and Barbecue, The Fais-Do-do – with live entertainment and the best of seafood, Talent Searches, Blueberry – Family entertainment, Motorbike Jamborees, Deep Sea Fishing Rodeo, Crab Festival, Annual Blues, Independence Day, and many more Arts, Food and Special Events follow on. The Delta Region has 19 Special Events for the year; B.B. King – Blues Festival, Delta Jubilee, Highway 61 Blues Festival, Benton Blues, 2009 Delta Fair, 2009 Greenville, Sunflower River Blues, Cat Head Delta Blues, Mississippi Jazz, Tennessee Williams Festival, famous October Fest and many more. The Hills Region has 30 items; Corinth Theater Arts – has events throughout the year, Tupelo Gigantic Flea Market – monthly, Blueberry Plantation – self picking, Tupelo Elvis Presley Show, Boating festival, Gospel, Blues and more Blues to fill the soul and many more. The Pine Region also hosts 19 events; Neshoba Country Classic – Horse Show, Emancipation Celebration, Patriotic Festivals, Choctaw Indian Fair, Watermelon Fair, Neshoba County, Motor Cycle Rally, Annual Blues, Prairie Arts, Car and Truck Show, Ghosts and Legends Tour, Antiques, Veterans and of course innumerable more Food and music festivals.

North along the Mississippi River is the fastest growing Casino, Spa, Golf and Resort area in the US. Dozens of entertainment venues line the coast. The ‘Mississippi Riverboat’ has truly ‘landed’.
